Week 4: Parasite
If you haven't seen "Parasite" yet, you definitely need to check it out. It's a South Korean film that came out a few years ago and it's one of the best movie's I've ever watched.
The movie is all about the divide between the rich and the poor, and it centers around this struggling family called the Kims. They're living in this cramped, dingy semi-basement apartment and they're just trying to make ends meet. But then the son, Ki-woo, gets offered a tutoring job for the daughter of this wealthy family and the Kims see it as an opportunity to improve their situation. But things quickly get out of control as they become more and more entangled in the lives of the wealthy family.
The thing that I loved about "Parasite" is how it doesn't pull any punches when it comes to showing the stark divide between the rich and the poor. It's a really clever, well-written film that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. The acting is also top notch, especially from Song Kang-ho who plays the patriarch of the Kim family. He's able to convey a range of emotions with such subtlety and nuance.
The cinematography is also amazing. The film is shot beautifully and the use of color and lighting is really effective in setting the mood and tone. I also really enjoyed the music in the movie - it added a lot to the overall atmosphere.
Overall, I would definitely recommend checking out "Parasite". It's a thought-provoking and powerful exploration of class struggle and the human condition. It's a must-see for fans of foreign cinema and anyone interested in exploring themes of inequality and social injustice. I would give it a 5/5 stars.
